Frickley foiled by Maltby…

Hear from both side’s as Main begin their pre-season with a win at the Wezzicana.

Maltby began their schedule with an impressive 2-1 win away at Betvictor Northern Premier League South East side Frickley Athletic.

The Miners should have gone ahead after a quarter into the game when King was thwarted by Tom Jackson inside the penalty area however, Waide Fairhurst stepped up and dragged the spot-kick wide of the target.

Gav King put the Miners into the lead in the 24th minute when he lapped up a ‘keeper’s parried effort from a Jonathan Hill cross.

Just before the break, things got better for the away side as they doubled their lead. King’s cross towards the back stick was met by Forster who finished first time through the ‘keeper from a tight angle – he had only just entered the field after replacing Steven Hopefull.

Kyle Simpson pulled a goal back for the NPL South East outfit as he escaped the offside trap and lobbed Pollard on 65 minutes.

Maltby went close another two times, but that didn’t matter as they saw out the fixture for a friendly win.

Manager Scott Mason was pleased with how his side performed.

Mason stated; “It’s always good to get a win, but these first few friendlies are to get to know each other’s games and fitness more than anything. But, the lads know what we expect and I thought last night we came away with plenty of positives from the game.

“We still have players missing, some are either away or returning from niggles, so over the next few weeks our squads will change over pre-season.

“We thank Frickley Athletic for asking us along at the last minute because we had a game cancelled and really didn’t want another training session. You want games now more than anything.”

In the other dugout was Craig Spink. The former Harworth Colliery boss was disappointed with the goals conceded, but saw the positives from their first friendly of the summer.

Spink said; “Obviously, it was our first pre-season game, so we wanted to get everyone 45 mins.

“I thought in the first-half we passed the ball well, but made two mistakes which was disappointing to concede from. Second-half, we were more positive and created more opportunities.

“Maltby were really well-organised and a lot of their team have played together and know each other mostly, inside out – that is what we are working on in every training session.

“All the new lads have been excellent in their approach to training and was good to see them in action Tuesday night. Obviously, it is early days, but there is bags of potential between them all.

“We have another tough opponent Friday against East Stirling which we are all really looking forward to.”

This was Spink’s first game as Manager in front of the Frickley fans – albeit he has been here many times as a coach under Spencer Fearn.

“I’ll be honest, when I left the club I was gutted.” Spink continued; “So to come back as the number one was great feeling.

“There are lots of plans both on and off the field and after speaking to Spencer & Ryan, it’s a long-term project that I want to be involved in.”

All square between Handsworth and Dronfield…

Dronfield Town and Handsworth shared the spoils in their first run outs of pre-season on the 3G surface at Gosforth Fields last night. A healthy crowd saw Luke Francis score the first goal of the new era for the visitors with a neatly drilled finish before Mark Feraday levelled things up from the spot five minutes from time. Throw in a couple of sin bin appearances near the end and it all added up to a decent evening’s entertainment, writes Ian Robinson.

Both management teams were pleased with what they saw, with Town boss Chris Millington telling us “It was a really good workout against a good Handsworth team. I was really happy with how we kept our shape out of possession and we asked a lot of our back line and thought they were excellent today. There’s things that we need to work on in the final third in terms of being a bit more clinical and not turning the ball over as easy, but we looked fit and the lads played the system well. We’re looking forward to Friday’s game at Ollerton where we will freshen things up a little and hopefully get more minutes in the lads legs.”

From the Handsworth perspective Assistant Manager Luke Forgione also declared himself pleased with the performance, adding “We couldn’t have asked for more. We controlled large spells of the game, and with a bit more quality and sharpness in the final third we could have scored more and won the game. We are slightly disappointed to concede, but at this stage we’re not too fussed about the scoreline and there were a number of positives to be taken from this experience and it was a successful evening across the board. Game time, new faces, the forming of the group and application of the playing style was evident to see. After one real tactical session, we are more than happy and will continue to work on concepts in preparation for the first fixture. “Even the sin bin provided our players with a new learning experience and we’re pleased this arrived early in our preparations. All in all, it was a great evening and thanks to Dronfield for providing the test and good luck to them for their season.”

As stated above, Dronfield travel to Ollerton Town on Friday night whilst Handsworth return to action next Tuesday when they take on County Senior League side Frecheville Davys at Sandy Lane.

Penistone unlucky against Clinical Sheffield FC…

Northern Counties Premier Division Penistone Church welcomed Northern Premier League side Sheffield FC to the DSM Memorial Ground on Tuesday night in what was a very competitive workout for both sides in their first pre-season outings as “The World’s First” came out 4-1 victors, writes Ben Woodcock.

“Club” fielded a mix of players from last season and additions that Gavin Smith has made over the summer; Dylan Parkin made his first appearance in goal, while Rory Coleman and Bradley Beatson also starred. Also, Former Loughborough Dynamo ace Karl Demidh started up top with trialist Alex Wonham. Similarly, “Church” began with a mix of largely familiar faces with some looking to make an initial impact on the Northern Counties promotion hopefuls in the forthcoming campaign.

It didn’t take long for hitman Demidh to get up and running in the Club colours, after just two minutes he found the back of the net past Penistone goalkeeper Snaith. The scoreline remained 1-0 at the break, despite Church putting on a good show for the 151 in attendance, they failed to create any clear cut chances in front of goal. Then, shortly after the interval, prolific scorer from last season Marc Newsham netted on the 56th minute mark with a prestine touch, turn and finish.

Soon later, Mitchell Dunne was introduced to the fold and became the third Sheffield striker to hit home. After a clear penalty, Dunne cooly stepped up to make it three from 12 yards. The Churchmen however, were not guilty of throwing the towel in and grabbed themselves a deserved goal on 72 minutes, when Danny Barlow capitalised after a mistimed clearance by Chapman from a Scott Whittington pass.

Then, just prior to 90 minutes, Dunne bagged for the second time after good work from substitute and long term servant of Club, Matt Roney. This left the final score at 4-1, somewhat harsh on the home side who played some great football throughout in what proved to be a very positive opener for both Penistone Church and Sheffield FC. The hosts continue their pre season on Friday night with a game against NCEL Division One side Worsbrough Bridge, kicking off at 19:30. Meanwhile, Sheffield FC host Hallam FC in the world’s oldest derby, this coming Saturday, kicking off at midday.

A ‘typical pre-season game’ for Armthorpe…

Armthorpe went up against LIV Supplies from the Humber Premier League last night, with the Doncaster side coming out on top, writes Mitchell Radford.

The first goal of the game came 13 minutes in, Adam Lee ran on to a through ball from Leon Larcombe-Loftus where he chipped the on-rushing LIV Supplies ‘keeper from the edge of the box. Lee nearly doubled his, and Armthorpe’s tally on 24 minutes when he dribbled round the ‘keeper before his shot was cleared off the line from a tight angle.

LIV Supplies had a few chances of their own after the Armthorpe goal, unfortunately for them none of the efforts found the back of the net. The score line could have been different on 85 minutes when Alfie Stevens-Neale had to make a good save from the Supplies striker.

Armthorpe finally made the game safe in injury time, after a great run by Alan Jackson who crossed the ball into the penalty area where Poskitt smashed the ball home.

Armthorpe manager Mike Carmody claimed the match felt like a ‘typical pre-season game’. “It was nice to finally get back on the football field after a long few weeks of hard work on the training ground and I felt the boys responded well. We knew the first game was always about getting minutes into players legs. All the lads managed to get at least 45 minutes of football and that’s what we planned at this stage.

The game itself was a typical pre-season game, lots of rustiness and players finding their way back in. For the most part I’m happy with the performance at this stage and we certainly showed signs of being very good once we click fully.

Thanks to Bill for bringing his lads we knew it would be a good physical test and it was certainly that. It looks like he’s putting together a decent outfit and we wish him well. I’m a big believer in pre-season results mean nothing it’s about getting ready and drilled for when those three points are at stake. For us it’s on to Saturday when we welcome a very good Belper team who we’ll have to raise our standards again to match.”

Rossington give a good account of themselves against League One Doncaster…

6th tier of Non-League football Rossington Main welcomed League One professional local outfit Doncaster Rovers to Oxford Street, writes Russell Sheppard.

The Blues started the game with ex Doncaster Rovers keeper Jan Budtz in goal and the Rovers’ started the game with the majority of their 1st team. Alfie May broke the deadlock for Doncaster with a great curling shot past Jan Budtz, which the Doncaster fans greatly received after watching the Blues stop most of the Rovers’ attacks.

Jordan Buckham tried an exquisite effort from distance by attempting to lob the on-rushing Ian Lawlor. Main went into half time 1-0 down with their heads held high after a great half of closing down Doncaster’s professionals. Straight from the kick-off, 16 year old Bailey Conway unfortunately headed into his own goal after a cross from Doncaster’s Sadlier was put into the back post.

Rossington heads didn’t drop but Doncaster added to their lead to make it 3-0 with Watters firing in a goal from the edge of the box. Marcel Chipamaunga came close down the left-hand side and just put his effort wide for the Blues.

But the game finished 3-0 to Doncaster with the away team getting more of a workout than they first thought they would have. Next up Rossington play AFC Bentley at home on Saturday 13th July. 3PM Kick off.

Hemsworth come out victorious in ‘Miners Welfare Derby’…

Hemsworth Miners Welfare played host to Nostell Miners Welfare in the ‘Miners Welfare’ derby last night at The Distant Future Stadium, writes Mitchell Radford.

Nostell took the lead on 13 minutes through number 10, Jack Owen. A corner was swung into the danger area, which wasn’t dealt with and Owen smashed the ball into the roof of the net. Hemsworth levelled the game on 21 minutes after a great team goal allowed Ryan Carroll to get his first goal for the club with a diving header from a Nash Connolly cross.

It wasn’t long before Nostell were in the lead again though, poor defending from ‘Wells’ let in Jack Owen who made no mistake in slotting home. Four minutes from half-time and Hemsworth levelled again, centre half Harry Viggars getting his second goal in two games. It was a Declan Parker free kick that landed on the head of Viggars who took full advantage in making the score 2-2.

Just before half time, it was the same combination linking together to get Hemsworth’s third goal and put them into the lead for the first time. Declan Parker this time put in a corner which is headed in beautifully by Viggars at the near post. The fourth and final goal of the game 11 minutes from time, Sidney Santos getting the goal. It was a good run by Matty Hughes down the right flank, he pulled the ball back to Santos who just managed to finish the move off. The game finished 4-2 in Hemsworth’s favour and they now roll on to a game against AFC Emley on Friday. As for Nostell, their next game is against Knaresborough Town on Saturday.

Hemsworth manager Wayne Benn feels his sides performance was a little ‘mixed’. “We knew last night’s game against Nostell would be tough and that’s exactly how it played out. The result isn’t important, but the performance is and I feel ours was a bit mixed. We played some really good stuff at times, moved Nostell around quite well with our possession but undermined that slightly by conceding two poor goals.

We changed the entire team for the 2nd half and managed the game quite well. I was happy with our work rate for the entire game and the attitudes of everyone has been 1st class since the 1st pre-season training session.

It was nice to win against a good Nostell side who I’m sure will go well again this season but as I said that’s not the most important thing, we are building towards the 3rd of August and so far, the signs are very positive.”

Clean sheet for Owen helps Ollerton in 2-0 win…

Ollerton Town’s pre-season got underway last night against Mansfield Hosiery Mills and for new boy Levi Owen, it was a perfect start as he kept a clean sheet in the Town’s 2-0 victory, writes Liam Kent.

Lewis Bingham put Ollerton ahead just before half-time with Aaron Sennett-Neilson scoring a terrific second midway through the second period. It was a game Ollerton were expected to win against lower league opponents but Hosiery Mills proved to be a tough test and made Dave Winter’s men work for the win.

With an all NCEL Division One clash against Dronfield Town to come on Friday evening, Levi was pleased with what he saw from his new team mates: “It was a good start last night. I thought we played with a good tempo and intensity for the full ninety minutes, as well as playing some really good looking football. It was also great to see some of the new under 18s players get a run out and they looked completely comfortable at this level.”

Bridlington ‘blown away’ by Tadcaster…

‘The Seasiders’ hosted Tadcaster Albion at Queensgate last night in what was also a battle between two good friends in Brett Agnew and Curtis Woodhouse, writes Mitchell Radford.

It was seven minutes into the game when Tadcaster took the lead. The move started with a great run from Alex Wiles who played in Donald Chimalilo who slotted the ball home under Bridlington ‘keeper James Hitchcock. The lead was doubled on 14 minutes when a diving header from Lebron Mbeke found the back of the net.

The game had its third goal just before the half hour mark. ‘The Beast from the East’ and former Bridlington striker Jake Day pounced on a free kick that was parried out. The fourth and final goal came five minutes from half-time when Day turned provider and beautifully laid the ball on a plate to Alex Wiles, who made no mistake and slotted home.

Bridlington manager Brett Agnew said that Tadcaster ‘blew them away’. “Last night was a really good game to watch, the first half and especially the first 30 mins they totally blew us away, their speed and little give and goes were really good to watch. Second half we changed formation and seemed to settle a bit and were a lot better. We competed better, made a few chances of our own as well.

We have lots to work on as a team and individually, but I think if we practice on it then we are more than capable of doing that to teams in our league. Very best of luck to Curtis and Fozzy (Martin Foster) for their season, I hope they do well.”

Valuable test for Thackley against ‘brilliant’ Farsley…

Thackley played Vanarama National League North side Farsley Celtic last night at Dennyfield, with the side three divisions above coming out on top, writes Mitchell Radford.

This was the perfect game for Patrick McGuire and his team to test themselves against a top outfit and see where they are as a team. Unfortunately for them the result didn’t go as planned I’m sure as they lost 1-6 but while ever we are still in ‘pre-season mode’ the result counts for nothing and Thackley will have learned a lot from the game.

Thackley lined up with their two new signings Charlie Flaherty and Ben Grech-Brooksbank who have both signed from divisional and geographical rivals, Eccleshill United. Charlie was captain of Eccleshill for a number of years, so will bring a whole host of experience and knowledge to McGuire’s side. Farsley scored the first goal of the game on 14 minutes, Danny Ellis heading in a cross from Tyler Walton after a short corner was played by Luke Parkin.

A second goal for Farsley was scored just 10 minutes later, Nathan Cartman this time getting on the scoresheet after a wonderful through ball by Walton. The third goal was scored by Ben Atkinson on 49 minutes after a cross was palmed by Thackley ‘keeper into the path of Atkinson who tucked the ball home and made the score 0-3 to Farsley.

Things got worse for Farsley on 63 minutes, Atkinson doubling his tally for the match after a great run by Will Hayhurst, he laid the ball off to Atkinson who drilled the ball home. Nine minutes later and the score was made 0-5 by Nathan Cartman who also grabbed a brace, a delicious cross was sent to the back post by Isaac Baldwin which found Cartman and he made no mistake.

Thackley had a little bit of joy five minutes from time, when 18 year old Zackary Sangster latched onto a loose ball in the penalty area and poked the ball home. That was his first ever senior goal, well done to Zackary!

The final goal of the game and Farsley’s sixth was scored a minute from time. Crossing seemed to be the order of the day when another one was put into the danger area by Jordan Richards and Will Hayhurst ended the game in style. The referee blew his whistle and the game ended 1-6 to Farsley.

Patrick McGuire called it a ‘valuable test’ for his side. “Tonight, was a valuable test for our lads. For many it was their first outing of pre-season, so it was a baptism of fire for them against an excellent Farsley side. We wanted to be ran about to gain fitness and Farsley played at a great tempo which made our lads graft for the full 90minutes. It was obvious there were a few nerves as the quality of our passing was nowhere near what I expect but as I said before we’re not expecting miracles at this early stage.

New signing Charlie Flaherty was a stand out player for us and I’m thrilled for young Zack Sangster who scored his first goal for the first team with a real striker’s finish. From the players to the coaching staff we all learnt a lot last night and for our young lads that aspire to go higher it was a good eye opener for them to see the levels they need to reach. The workout stands us in good stead going forward and the lads have to get their levels back up quickly as we face another quick turnaround with us playing Campion tomorrow night.”

Tough Start For Silsden!

It’s fair to say that Silsden AFC didn’t have the best of starts to pre-season against Avro FC yesterday, writes Mitchell Radford.

It only took Avro three minutes to open the scoring (no information on goal scorer). On seven minutes it was 0-2, this time a penalty was smashed home by Liam Ellis despite Alfie Darke getting a finger too it.

On 21 minutes Avro had their third goal, Michael Shenton heading the ball home from a corner. 11 minutes later and Avro scored their fourth, it was actually a Silsden ‘goal’ that was disallowed for offside which allowed Avro to break forward and slot the ball past Darke.

The misery continued for Silsden after the half-time break, Callum Jackson pouncing on a mistake from Darke. With 18 minutes left to play, Avro grabbed their penultimate goal. Duncan Knott finishing off a nice move.

Silsden finally got in on the act on 79 minutes when silky footwork from Khan allowed him past the back line, he then rounded the keeper and was left with a easy finish. The little sense of joy was short lived when Avro scored again to compete the rout a minute later. Former FC United striker, now player/coach at Avro scored straight from the kick-off. The game finished at 1-7, Silsden next face Ossett United on Wednesday.

Silsden assistant manager Craig Bentham gave us his views on the game. “Yesterday was a tough start to pre-season. There was a few things to look at yesterday with new players signing and a settling in process.

In saying that, some, including myself need to step up to the plate and take control of situations that present themselves. We demand high standards of each other whether that be in training or on a game day.

Pre-season is all about getting them hard yards in. You can’t read too much into these 5/6 weeks leading up to the season but we fully expect to show a better account of ourselves on our next run out.”

All Square Between Steeton And Thackley!

Yesterday, Steeton played Thackley AFC in ‘The Dennyboys’ first pre-season game, writes Mitchell Radford.

Jack Normanton scored the first goal of the game for Thackley on three minutes with a close range strike. Normanton doubled his and Thackley’s tally on 31 minutes, with a cool finish into the bottom corner.

Three minutes from half-time and Steeton pulled a goal back, Ben Clarkson the goal scorer. Steeton levelled the game four minutes from the final whistle, Jack Richmond with a close range effort.

Thackley manager Patrick McGuire shared his views on the game. “It’s always a good test against Steeton and Roy Mason has assembled a good side there. The first game of pre-season is always about blowing off the cobwebs, no one’s expecting perfection but the lads gave a good account of themselves in the heat.

With 13 senior players missing it was a good chance for some of our young lads to gain a taste of first team football and there were some good performances. We have a busy week now with games against Farsley on Monday and Campion on Wednesday so managing player’s game time will be important, as the last thing we want to do is pick up any injuries.

Although we always set out to win, pre-season is about getting minutes in the lads and hoping everyone comes through unscathed ready to start the season on August 3rd.”

Great Day For Parkgate As Attendance Record Is Smashed!

Parkgate Football Club played Sky Bet League One side Rotherham United today, Rotherham fielded a full strength side, writes Mitchell Radford.

Despite the scoreline being 0-7 to Rotherham, that was always going to be on the cards, because of the strength of side that was fielded. A massive 1536 people turned up to watch the game, which has broken Parkgate’s attendance record, that more than makes up for the defeat.

Rotherham took the lead on 7 minutes when Joshua Kayode slotted the ball home from a corner, the lead was doubled on 21 minutes. This time Kayode turned provider when he laid the ball on a plate for Matt Crooks who calmly placed the ball into the net.

Rotherham’s third goal was scored by Michael Smith who curled the ball into the top corner with his left foot. Three minutes before half-time it was 0-4, Crooks with his second, a tap in from Barlaser’s cross.

‘The Millers’ brought out a new team for the second half, but they carried on from where they left off and made it 0-5 in the 63rd minute. This time Jamie Proctor became a poacher and tapped in from close range.

The penultimate goal came on 74 minutes when Matthew Olosunde was fouled inside the area and the referee awarded a penalty. Jamie Proctor made no mistake from the spot to make the scoreline 0-6.

Finally, the rout was completed six minutes from time, Carlton Morris cut inside and unleashed a curling shot into the far corner. 0-7 to The Millers, but the day belongs to Parkgate who I’m sure will benefit enormously from the gate receipts picked up today!

Andy Dawson, Parkgate manager shares his views on the attendance. “Today has been a fantastic occasion for everyone at Parkgate Football Club. For us to play a full strength League One side is a great test for our lads and attracting a crowd of over 1500 gives the club a great boost both in profile and financially. I’d like to place on record my thanks to everyone who has made today possible.”

Honours Even At The Distant Future Stadium

Hemsworth Miners Welfare gained a credible draw against Vanarama North side Bradford Park Avenue, writes Mitchell Radford.

Hemsworth have made some top signings in the ‘off season’ including the likes of ex Bridlington Town midfielder Rikki Paylor and Jason Davis, formerly of Brighouse Town and Campion AFC. After a very good season last year, placing 4th in the NCEL Premier Division ‘The Wells’ will be hoping to finish in the top three and gain promotion to the Northern Premier League this time around.

In terms of the match, Hemsworth took the lead in the 34th minute when Harry Viggars headed the ball home from a Declan Parker corner. It was actually a current Hemsworth player (on trial at Bradford PA) who scored the equalising goal for the visitors. Bradley Dockerty finished well from a pull back.

Into the second half and in the 62nd minute ‘BPA’ took the lead. A misplaced backpass left Wells’ goalkeeper Jordan Greaves stranded and Lewis Knight took full advantage by slotting the ball home. The fourth and final goal of the game, came from Jason Davis. A good team move from Hemsworth led to Davis being played through and he made no mistake to level the game at 2-2. That is how the game finished, with both sides having things to work on, but ultimately a good pre-season run out.

Hemsworth manager Wayne Benn shared his views. “I’m really pleased with today’s performance, on a warm day I think we more than matched a team from three divisions above. Obviously my old club are in a bit of a transition, it was maybe a good time to catch them,as I’m sure they will improve as time goes on.

I thought we were excellent in the 1st half and I felt we probably should have gone in at half time a goal or two in front. We changed our system 2nd half and made lots of changes and inevitably you lose a bit of shape but despite going behind to a mistake we showed good character to equalise and it was thoroughly deserved.

Pre season for me is all about fitness and getting to 3rd August injury free. It was a great workout for both teams and we thank Garry and Shaun for bringing their team across and on a personal level it was great to see lots of familiar faces. It’s a great start, but that’s all it is.We’ve a tough pre season schedule and it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming games.”

Maltby Show Who The ‘Main’ Team Is!

In the ‘Main’ derby today, Maltby Main played Rossington Main in what was both teams first pre-season game, writes Mitchell Radford.

Rossington played the match with nearly an entire squad of new players, clearly wanting to start fresh after last season’s disappointing finish of 14th in the NCEL Division One table. New manager Ben Hunter and assistant manager Sam Parkin will be wanting to show what they can do at this level with Rossington too.

Maltby will have something to prove this season after being one of the top sides in the NCEL Premier Division for a few years now, with three promotion spots up for grabs, they will want to be firing on all cylinders come the start of the season.

Onto the match itself and the first goal was scored by Maltby and Gavin King on nineteen minutes. Good work between him and Connor Cutts allowed King in who took his chance well. With not much happening in the game, the teams went in at the break with Maltby 0-1 to the good.

The only goal of the second half came in the 53rd minute, Robbie Foster doubled Maltby’s lead and that’s how the game finished. 0-2 to Maltby who start their pre-season in good finish, while ‘Rosso’ will want to improve on this result when they face a Doncaster Rovers XI next Tuesday.

Sam Parkin gave us a few words on the game “I’m happy because it was a good opportunity to get some of our ideas across to the lads and what we’re looking to implement moving forward in pre-season and into the season itself. We were pleased with what we saw against a very good Maltby side.

‘The Ammers’ Edge Seven-Goal Thriller!

Yorkshire Amateur won their second game in as many days when they beat Cameroon Community this Saturday afternoon, writes Mitchell Radford.

Fresh after beating Kirk Deighton 5-0 on Thursday, ‘The Ammers’ came into the game against Cameroon Community with a lot of confidence. Seven goals followed in the game with Amateur winning 4-3 which I’m sure made their management team and fans happy.

The four goals came from hitman striker Ashley Flynn, new signing Aiden Savory, Frank Zalo and Fernando Moke. The Cameroon Community goals came from Lamin Coley, Brice Tiani and Fabrize. They now move on to a game against Hunslet Club Football on the 10th July.

Joint manager Neil Sibson told us it was ‘just what the doctor ordered’ and also – “It was a very tough game today against a very strong Cameroon community side. We knew it was going to be a good test, hence the reason why we took the fixture. The Cameroon team was really a mixture of the best African lads around the West Yorkshire area, and what a strong side they have produced pushing us all the way to the final whistle.

All the opposition lads play at this level and above, although be it for different clubs. We even had a couple of our current players on their side. We ended up edging the match with goals from Fernando Moke, Ashley Flynn, Aiden Savory and Frank Zalo who completed the scoring.

It was just what the doctor ordered in terms of the test and outcomes that we had planned and wanted from the contest. Still, lots to work on which we will continue to do as we move along towards the season.”

Bridlington Lose Out To Worksop!

It was Worksop Town who came away from Queensgate with the win in today’s pre-season friendly against Bridlington Town, writes Mitchell Radford.

It was Worksop who had the first real chance of the game after nine minutes, Matty Templeton whipped in a lovely ball to the back post where centre half Matt Reay was lurking, but his header went over the bar. It wasn’t long before Worksop took the lead however, in the 20th minute Lynton ‘CarCrash’ Karkach finished a ball sent to the back post.

Immediately though Bridlington levelled. The usual ‘A Triallist’ finishing off a good move in the 21st minute. Six minutes later and Worksop were once again in the lead, Karkach grabbing his second of the match. A one-two between Deegan Atherton and Andy Gascoigne, allowed Atherton in behind the Brid defence. He crossed the ball in, and Lynton put a lovely curling effort past the goalkeeper. That is how the first half ended, with Worksop going into the changing room with a 1-2 advantage.

Into the second half and the game had to wait until the 81st minute for the fourth goal, Gascoigne involved again, he played a fantastic ball through to substitute Kyle Jordan who coolly chipped the out-rushing keeper to make the game safe for Worksop.

Bridlington Town assistant manager Anthony Bowsley gave us his thoughts on the game. “It was a good, competitive game today against Worksop as expected. Overall, we are happy with the performance, we had four or five regulars who missed the game. This gave us the opportunity to look at some of the fringe players and the triallist who did very well. This game should stand us in good stead for the season ahead.”
