After the confirmation of the appointment of former Tottenham assistant coach Ryan Mason on Monday night, it’s now time to look forward to the transfer window for new recruits in the hope that they can build a competitive squad to challenge for the top six, with last season ending in disappointment, finishing 9th in the Sky Bet Championship after being in the race for the playoffs for the first half of the season.
Within this article I will be bringing you the latest names mentioned in the Baggies’ hunt for new players.
Baggies hold strong interest in Hearts defender.
West Brom are reportedly interested in Hearts defender James Penrice; however, it would take a sizeable fee for Hearts to consider selling Penrice (according to Barry Anderson on X).
It was also reported that previous manager Tony Mowbray asked for him to be scouted as a potential transfer target.
West Brom Head of Recruitment, Ian Pearce is also a big fan, but it is unsure whether they will follow up the interest, as that is dependent on the plans of Ryan Mason. (Barry Anderson on X).
Penrice is primarily a left back and can produce consistent 7/10 performances across the season, according to FotMob, who give him an average rating of 7.3 over the season.
West Brom also interested in Hearts striker
West Brom have reportedly ‘re-ignited’ their interest in Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland.
The Baggies were previously interested last season, but nothing ever came of it. Shankland is out of contract at Hearts this summer and is weighing up whether to leave the Scottish side this summer, with the decision expected in the coming days (Scottish Sun).
Shankland had an okay season, scoring eight and providing for a teammate on eight occasions with an average match rating of 7 (FotMob).
A fairytale return to the Baggies for Cedric Kipre.
There could be a shock return for former Baggies defender Cedric Kipre.
The former Baggies defender has just been relegated with Remis in France after joining them from the Baggies last summer for an undisclosed fee.
After being relegated, it is thought that the former defender for the Albion wants to move away from France and remains in regular contact with WBA representatives.
It is also thought that the club would not be opposed to bringing the defender back (DOOD on X) after an unbelievable season for the Baggies in his previous spell, where he became a fan favourite and won the Player of the Year award.
The defender has been pretty consistent considering circumstances and being involved with a relegated side, averaging a 6.96 match rating across the season.
Mason to use Spurs links to his advantage?
After being appointed as the new Baggies boss on Monday, Ryan Mason is hoping to use his links to Spurs to bolster the Albion ranks.
It has been reported this week that Albion are interested in bringing in Spurs academy graduate Mikey Moore over to OX DOOD, which reported that Ryan Mason is a big fan of the Spurs forward, having previously worked with him.
Moore has made his first team breakthrough this season under Ange Postecoglou, featuring 10 times in the Premier League and five times in the Europa League, with three starts in both and even bagging himself a goal in Europe at the age of just 17. This potential loan move could be a vital step in the development of his career.
Dike to return to the USA?
There are a number of clubs interested in striker Daryl Dike, including clubs from the MLS, as the American striker enters the final year of his contract at The Hawthorns (DOOD/West Brom xtra on X).
The American goalscorer has had an injury-riddled time since joining the Baggies, having had two injuries to his ACL in quick succession to each other.
I think I speak for everyone in the Baggies fanbase and just the EFL community in general when I say there’s nothing I want to see more than this man hit the ground running and have a clean bill of health.
That’s it for senior player transfer news; however, the last thing to report on is that Walsall are showing strong interest in Baggies academy midfielder Harry Whitwell alongside other EFL clubs. The midfielder is expected to go out on loan to continue his development after impressing at youth level for Albion.
